Atelier Base is an interior refurbishment of a commercial space on the first floor of a building in Campo de Ourique, Lisbon.
The intervention defines three distinct areas: an entrance room with three workstations; a central area with a bathroom and pantry; and a workroom with six workstations, in direct relation to the courtyard. In this larger room, a meeting room was designed to open up completely through two large sliding panels.
As a guiding principle for the space’s design, it was decided that there would be continuity in terms of solutions and materials. Everything is built with the same material, birch plywood, and this same material is transformed according to need - shutters, cupboards, low shelves, high shelves, plotter units, television units, model tables, stairs, kitchen worktops, loveseats, lunch tables, hidden bathroom doors.
Two special material-moments were added: the canopy in brass and the patio in Evora Yellow. The former added a special shine and color, with the diffuse characteristics of the yellow of the brass, adding a warm and welcoming tone to the darker space. In the same vein, the Patio was painted a warm yellow, adding a dynamic of ochre colors to the larger workroom space that vary throughout the day according to the incidence of sunlight.
