@do mal o menos - Eduardo Nascimento

(CASA PÁTIO VIII)

We conceived the project based on the need to adapt the existing house to a contemporary lifestyle, by optimising circulation spaces in favour of the main living areas.

The existing house and outbuildings already hinted the concept of the future home: a central courtyard that brings together all the surrounding spaces, illuminating and ventilating them whilst offering the possibility of outdoor living, extending them as far as necessary, both in terms of space and in how they are occupied and lived in.

Its spatial and functional organisation was divided into three volumes/themes: workspaces + social spaces + rest areas.

Thus, in the volume along the street, we have placed two work spaces separated by the wine vats, which now serve as the library. In the central volume, a space of convergence—both in terms of human relations and on a functional and organisational level—it acts as a mediator between the realm of work and the more private dimension of rest (bedrooms).

This volume will have a more direct relationship with the courtyard, and can extend outwards as a social space. Finally, in the volume set back from the bustle of the street, the three bedrooms are arranged in a more intimate relationship with the central courtyard, sheltered by the tree and a possible bougainvillea, next to the courtyard’s shading pillars.

The interiors will be in light, slightly chromatic tones, combined with wood, lending the spaces a calm atmosphere, in Leziria do Tejo's natural continuity.
