(CASA POÇO FECHADO)

The original house was designed in the 1990s by architect José da Costa Bastos.

A project adapted to topography, whose organization results in a large living space with a double-height ceiling, visually connected to the dining areas on the upper floor. It was through these social spaces that one accessed a new area, ambiguous in its use and in its interior-exterior relationship: an interior space providing access to the bedrooms, but also an exterior space, where the polycarbonate roof, supported by a system of rollers, opened, allowing natural light to enter the existing winter garden.

Our intervention was based on respect for the volumetry and articulation between spaces, seeking to add a contemporary perspective. Inside, the idea of visual permeability between the various social spaces was developed. A kitchen was designed with double-open access to the dining room and a terrace with natural light. The living room, with its double-height ceiling, was spatially enhanced in its relationship with the exterior and the upper floor, whose access staircase simultaneously hides and reveals itself.

The ambiguous access space to the bedrooms was maintained in its special condition: a space that adapts to any use we can imagine.

An open program space.
