(CASA DO DIQUE)
Rehabilitation of a 1930s house in Valada, built on a flood protection dyke on the River Tagus.
This structure is part of a group of 23 dikes that protect a vast agricultural territory with around 940,000 inhabitants.
Built on the foundation of the dyke, in stone, adobe (above flood level) and wood structure, the intervention was based on the principle of "adaptive reuse"*, enhancing the relationship between interior spaces, while exploring the sunlight from the east and the privileged view over the River Tagus.
* 1999 Burra Charter, Australia ICOMOS.
